From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the party reach areas they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them little choice but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
